Featured e-Mail of the week

Hey Mike,
I am getting your videos and I thank you for them. 4 years ago I
was
30 years old and I didn't know how to play anything. Everyone in
my
family knew how to play something but me. Then I found out one of
my
co-workers was a guitar teacher on the side. I asked if I could
have
him show me a couple of things and if I could do them sufficiently I
might pursue guitar further. If I sucked at it I would stop.
I went
over to his house for a couple of lessons knowing absolutely nothing.
He said he had never seen anyone learn as fast as me so that was
encouraging.
I went ahead and got my first guitar after that (about 4 years ago)
and have been learning the slow way starting with the first chords I
learned from three visits with the first teacher, a little theory and a
few scales. I started learning more with a DVD that came with my
acoustic fender. Then I moved on to formal lessons for a few
months
and picked up a lot there. Nothing like having a person show you
how
to do something. Since then I've tried another DVD that I didn't
like
very much. Then I discovered youtube has a lot of good stuff (as
well
as bad you just have to sift through it). Then one night I came
across
your spanish song tutorial that had some fingerpicking in it. I
had
always used a flat pick and really loved learning fingerpicking.
I
knew it was only with my thumb and first finger though but that made it
perfect for me to start with something simple.
Now I'm practicing the fingerpicking patterns in your lesson 2 and
3 using my middle finger as well. Since I know some chords,
scales and
theory (it was exactly like you said in your intro video...I showed
some of my friends scales and they gave me blank stares) I am starting
to apply the patterns to them too. So I know when I combine what
I've
learned these four years with your stuff I'm going to get a lot better.
I really appreciate your approach, just showing me how to do it.
Then it's up to me to practice and work it out. One really
amazing
thing is I find that if I practice something at night and then sleep on
it I can often get it much easier the next day. Your brain works
it
out during your sleep I think. Pretty cool.
Anyway thanks for the videos. I had felt like I had hit a wall
and
with your videos I'm moving forward again and it feels good. I
love to
take things I learn and try to fit them in with stuff I've learned in
the past. I look forward to more videos. You're doing a
great thing
with your site. It's going to help a lot of people. Thanks
again.

Mike, Thank you...yes I was able to d/l and watch them with no problem.
They are absolutely great!!!! I've had my guitar over a year now and it
has basically been sitting there with about a total of 20 day's of play
because it is an instrument of torture
.
I watched a special on the discovery channel on the human bodyand how
the body trains itself off of repitition and I decided to pick up the
instrument of torture again and give it another go.I
saw your 1st lesson on youtube about 2 weeks ago and really liked how
you instructed. I then went to your website and found the rest.
Even after a week now I feel soooo much more confident....well maybe
not confident, but I already see progress. I'd like to say thank you.
what your doing is great!!!!!!
